It's October so you know what that means - the holidays are *gasp* just around the corner! I don't know about you but I am already starting to think about all the shopping I have to do.

But wait, you know what makes a great gift idea? Crystal jewelry! Nothing better than giving the gift of crystal magic to those that we love. And it coming in the form of some unique, gorgeous jewelry doesn't hurt ;) Or maybe handmade crystal jewelry is on your list this year. I mean, no shame in treating yourself or asking someone to gift you a piece for your collection!

Here's the thing though - you go to order jewelry online and you aren't sure exactly what size ring you wear or where that 16 inch necklace will actually sit. Well, I got you fam! This blog will tell you everything you need to know about measuring your ring and bracelet size and how to tell how long a necklace is!

How to Measure Ring Size at Home

First up: how to figure out your ring size. Of course you could get in your car and drive to a local jeweler and ask them to measure you, but you know you have to deal with a pushy salesperson who will want to sell you something. And plus like, who wants to waste the gas right? You can easily measure your ring size at home and there are two ways to do it.

What do I need to measure my ring size at home?

    You will need:

    • a tape measure or ruler
    • a piece of paper or string
    • a ring size chart like this one

Simply wrap the paper or string around the finger you want to buy a ring for, making sure to wrap it tight enough (like a ring) yet loose enough to slide it on and off. Mark where the ends meet and then measure. This number is the diameter and will tell you what your size is. Use this chart to figure out your ring size and then get to shopping!

Alternatively you can purchase a ring sizing tool like this one here and use it to measure your finger accurately. Slide one end into the other to form a ring and then tighten around the finger you are measuring. The arrow points to your ring size. Super easy!

    How to Measure Bracelet Size

Next we'll measure our bracelet size. This is even easier than ring size because there is no converting.

What do I need to measure my bracelet size at home?

    You will need:

    • tape measure or ruler
    • string or piece of paper

Simply wrap the string or piece of paper around your wrist and mark where the ends meet. Then measure it with your tape measure or ruler. The number you get is your bracelet size. For an added comfort fit, add 3/4 of an inch to the size.

How to figure out necklace chain length

Finally let's talk about necklace lengths. Obviously there will be some variations because everyone's bodies are different, but knowing generally where a necklace will sit on the body is useful.

What are the most popular necklace lengths?

    • Choker: A necklace that measures 16 inches is considered a choker. It typically sits right at the base of the neck
    • Princess: A necklace that measures 18 inches, this is also considered a "standard" size. It will typically sit a bit below the collarbones.
    • Matinee: A necklace measuring 24 inches, it sits in the middle of the chest.
    • Opera: A necklace measuring 30 inches is considered opera length. It will usually hang to mid-torso. (This one is also my personal favorite!)

So there you have it! Everything you need to know to figure out your jewelry size. Now get out there and get shopping!
